About Us
The Highwaymen Show was founded by Alabama native Gray Sartin, a seasoned performer with over two decades of professional experience. Gray's passion for entertainment began at the age of five with an appearance in an auto commercial. By ten, he had picked up the guitar, and at nineteen, he won a comedy contest with a spot-on impression of Rodney Dangerfield. In 2011, Gray launched Johnny Cash Now, a nationwide tribute show honoring the legendary Man in Black. By 2018, he expanded his repertoire, adding a tribute to Waylon Jennings and producing multi-tribute shows featuring legends like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Linda Ronstadt, Hank Williams Jr., Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. Eventually, Gray refined his vision, leading to the creation of The Highwaymen Show, a tribute to the iconic outlaw country supergroup. The Highwaymen Show is the only touring production in the world that pays homage to all four original Highwaymen—Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson.
The Story Behind The Highwaymen The original Highwaymen were born in 1984 when Johnny Cash invited Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson to perform on his Christmas TV special in Switzerland. After the show, the four country icons returned to their hotel, where they jammed together late into the night—sparking the idea that would lead to one of the most legendary supergroups in country music history.
A Show Like No Other Gray Sartin’s Highwaymen Show features a lineup of top-tier musicians who have performed alongside him for years. The band has toured extensively across North America, lighting up stages at fairs, festivals, performing arts centers, and casinos in Canada, Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Florida. Upcoming tour stops include New York, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, New Mexico, and Texas. Most recently, Gray completed an 18-show residency at the New Theater in Overland Park, Kansas, starring as Johnny Cash in the production of Johnny & June.
